It’s September and I’m still in Dortmund. My original plan was to use my Mondrian Fund Allowance to live and work in Kuenstlerhaus Dortmund from 15 June to 31 August. In stead of moving on to a new Ruhr Area spot, it was possible for me to stay on at Kuenstlerhaus Dortmund for the period of September/October until such time as I leave for Kosice, Slowakia, where I will be doing the KAIR Artist in Residence programme. This programme is a cooperation between Motel Spatie (Artist in Residency Arnhem) and KAIR (Kosice Artist in Residency). So from October to December I will be living and working in Kosice. In the meantime it may seem to have been rather quiet here, while I have actually been very busy. Here’s why:
When I first arrived in the Ruhr Area, I immediately started doing projects, resulting in works at the conference Unter Falscher Flagge at Pact Zollverein and an exhibition in Garage at Kuenstlerhaus Dortmund. So in my first month here I had been very busy creating and showing my work. Since then, I have decided to retreat to my studio space to focus more on ideas, and to experiment with new materials and new forms. This is already resulting in quite interesting new directions and my plan is to continue working like this until I am in Kosice, where I think a lot of these ideas in combination with a new place will result in exciting new work. I won’t show this process yet in images, the first time new visual material will be visible on this website will be towards the end of October when I am working in Kosice. Meanwhile I will be continuing my experiments in Dortmund in the hope of creating the most interesting results of this in Kosice. I will keep you posted!
